Post-operative Care after Oral Surgical Procedures

To avoid discomfort and complications following oral surgical procedures, it is essential to follow these instructions:

RINSING
Do not rinse your mouth today. Continue brushing your teeth as usual. The following day, if there is no bleeding, rinse your mouth every four hours with a solution made from one tablespoon of salt dissolved in one liter of water or with sage tea.

BLEEDING
Minimal bleeding can be expected for two to three days after the procedure. In the case of heavy or prolonged bleeding, contact your dentist or the emergency dental clinic immediately. If you are unable to do so, you can help by placing a folded piece of sterile gauze over the bleeding area. Bite down gently and hold it in place for about half an hour. You can repeat this procedure multiple times. If the bleeding does not stop, contact your dentist.

SWELLING
Swelling after surgery is not an unusual occurrence and does not pose a danger. To prevent it, apply ice wrapped in a plastic bag and cloth to the skin above the surgical site every 15-30 minutes during the first twelve hours after the procedure.

PAIN
If you experience pain, take 1-2 pain relief tablets every 4-6 hours as prescribed (Neofen, Ketonal, Plivadon, Voltaren Rapid). Avoid taking tablets containing acetylsalicylic acid (Andol, Aspirin), as they prolong bleeding.

NUTRITION
You can eat your usual food. It is recommended to consume liquid or soft food on the first day. Avoid hot beverages. Do not consume grainy or similar foods that may accumulate in the wound.

SMOKING
You should not smoke for 3-4 hours after the procedure, and while there is any bleeding.
